Bristol Airport is the ninth busiest airport in the UK. Nearly 6 million passengers passed through in 2011. The airport is an important UK departure point for low-cost airline EasyJet. There are plenty of routes with Ryanair too. The summer season sees a huge increase in flights, with tour operators Thomson and Thomas Cook operating dozens of routes to the popular beach holiday regions of Europe and beyond. 2012 saw around 20 airlines in residence.
A comprehensive choice of destinations includes most of the key holiday airports in Spain, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Malta, Portugal and Italy. Bristol has an especially wide choice of routes to Spain and the Greek Islands. A strong presence from EasyJet ensures a choice of European city destinations that few UK airports can match. Flights head for 12 different airports in France alone. Both Italy and Poland are exceptionally well served. Seasonal winter flights head for key ski holiday centres in Switzerland, Austria and France. Flights also operate to North Africa, Florida and the Caribbean. Bristol also offers flights to Jersey, Guernsey and the Republic of Ireland, plus a good choice of domestic routes to Scotland and Northern Ireland.
