Trains to Paphos International Airport
Public transport on the island of Cyprus is limited to buses, as there are no trains on the island. It seems strange, coming from a country that’s criss-crossed with train lines, but this island simply never found the need to build a railway infrastructure. Nice in a way, because the countryside remains relatively unspoiled as a result. If you want to travel around the island by public transport, buses and taxis are your best bet. You’ll find really good, regular public bus services that connect major towns plus urban buses that run between smaller towns, resorts and rural areas. If all else fails, catch a local taxi – they’re good value, very friendly and they drive like the wind! Buses to Paphos International Airport
You’ll find that Cyprus delivers regular bus services from early morning until early evening, running between central Paphos city itself and the bus parking area just outside the airport terminal. Like in the UK, there are all sorts of bus companies so buses come in different shapes and sizes. Not to worry – they all display their destination somewhere on the front of the bus. You’ll find bus timetables at any tourist office. Alternatively, get a timetable direct from the various bus companies. Remember that bus services cease for the day pretty early, at around 6pm, or you could find yourself stranded! It’s also good to bear in mind that bus services on Cyprus are limited at weekends and some places don’t run any services at all on Sundays. Like here in the UK, you pay your bus fare to the driver when you get on. And also like here, they tend to get grumpy if you don’t have the right change, or at least a small denomination note!
Driving to Paphos International Airport
Paphos International Airport sits just nine miles or so from Paphos city centre and is signposted extremely well. It is also a mere 30 miles from Polis, forty from the resorts at Limassol and 80 miles or so from Larnaca. Cyprus’s second largest airport and re-opened in its new, shiny format in November 2008, Paphos Airport is easy to access from all over the island. The main B6 road is notorious for being horrible congested but plans are underway for a new four lane motorway that’ll link the airport to Paphos more efficiently. That should relegate the B6 main road and the equally congested E603 to local traffic and make driving to and from the airport a much easier and more pleasant task! Until then, take the B6 south east from Paphos, hit the E603 turning about seven miles in and follow the airport signs from there.
