GETTING TO THE AIRPORT

By Bus

There is a free direct bus service to and from the railway station and the airport every hour. The Tees Valley Sky Express direct bus service (737) runs between the airport, Darlington railway station and the town hall, and it's free for airport passengers. The airport website includes useful links to bus companies and timetables.

Train

Because Darlington is on the fast rail route between London and Scotland, it is easy to get to by train. The journey time from London Kings Cross is a speedy two and a half hours. And there are more than forty trains a day between Darlington and Durham, Newcastle and York. Book early and you’ll find you make enormous savings on your rail tickets. You can get fast, up to date information about train times at National Rail Enquiries, either on the phone or via their website.

Driving

Durham Tees Valley Airport is 24 miles south of the city of Durham and six miles east of Darlington. There are good roads around the airport and traffic congestions is very rare. Reach the airport via the A67 – it is well signposted so follow the signs from the A1(M), the A19 or the A66. It’s generally a good idea to consult the AA Route Planner for detailed directions.

CAR PARKING

The airport has two separate passenger car parks for safe, secure airport parking. There is a simple online booking system which allows travellers to pre book a car parking space. To help matters further, car parks are surrounded by high security fences. They are well lit and they’re monitored constantly by 24 hour CCTV. If you decide not to pre book, you pay on your way out using one of the airport’s special pay stations.

The long stay car park is right in front of the terminal building, so it is very convenient. The short stay, drop off and pick up car park is round at the side of the terminal building, also conveniently placed. If you’re only planning a fast drop off or pick up, and you don’t take any longer than fifteen minutes, parking is free. The airport has dedicated parking bays available for blue badge holders, placed close to the terminal in the long stay car park. Remember to display your badge at all times.

Prices vary according to the amount of time you stay. Whether it’s for a day or two weeks, your vehicle will be safe and secure for your return. Save money by pre-booking online. If you want to pre book, you can do so provided you leave your car for 2 days or more. Depending on how early you book, you can make a saving of up to 35%. The airport website gives full details of the wide range of discounts available.
