Berlin Schönefeld Airport is situated in what was East Berlin, 18km from the city centre. This is the main entry point for low-cost flights from the UK. The airport will become merged into the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport, due to open in 2013.
Berlin Schonefeld is very well-served from the UK Recent years have seen economical direct flights with low-cost airlines EasyJet and Ryanair. The airport is a major European base for EasyJet. Fares are frequently among the lowest to Germany from the UK. Ryanair currently operate flights from East Midlands and London Stansted. EasyJet operate direct flights from Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, Southend, Luton and Gatwick. Some of these routes are summer season only.

• The airport railway station is a short walk from the terminal (there is also a free shuttle bus). AirportExpress trains run to the city centre every 30 minutes, calling at Berlin Ostbahnhof, Alexanderplatz, Friedrichstrasse, Central Station and Zoologischer Garten railway station. Journey time approximately 30 minutes.
• BVG bus lines 162 (to Adlershof) and 171 (to Neukölln) also head for the city centre. Bus X7 runs to U-Bahn Rudow Station.
