What is RSS?

RSS is a means of keeping up to date with the news that you want to hear about.  It allows you to keep up to date with the latest information since it is delivered directly to you rather than you having to trawl through numerous sites.

RSS stands for 'Really Simple Syndication'.  It enables you to choose the latest news and features and get it delivered directly to your PC.  Many websites now offer RSS and it is growing in popularity as people realise the benefits of having up-to-date news being sent to them directly.

Once you have installed your newsreader software (which checks the RSS feed and allows you to read articles), you will be able to drag and drop the orange RSS logo (shown on the right of this page) into your favourite newsreader.

You may be interested to learn that many Internet users are using RSS without realising they are doing so.  A survey conducted in October 2005 by Yahoo! and Ipsos Insight reported that many Internet users are personalising their start pages (choosing specific news and content) and accessing RSS feeds but are completely unaware it is RSS that gives them that ability.
