Low Cost Airlines

Low Cost Airlines - Ryanair, EasyJet & Flybe
It’s easy to find flights with the big international airlines. A quick look on any flight search will find British Airways, Air France, and Iberia (to name three at random) without any trouble at all. Of course, if you’re traveling on a budget, what’s easy isn’t always what’s best. In this case, the large international airlines are generally the most expensive way to fly. For the budget traveler, a far better option is a low cost, no frills airline.

Low Cost Airlines - No frills
Don’t worry: no frills doesn’t mean they’re using planes that will fall out of the sky! It means that you’re usually going to have a smaller jet, no meal service, and limited leg room. But if it means literally saving thousands of pounds -- and sometimes, it does -- these sacrifices don’t translate too much! There are two basic types of low cost airlines: national and continental. Of course, this is a generalization -- occasionally, these airlines fly outside their prescribed areas -- but it usually works as a classification. Usually, national low cost airlines work in countries with a large geographic area - countries like the United Kingdom, China, Canada, and the United States. You won’t often find a flight from Europe to Toronto with one of these airlines, but if you plan to travel within Europe - say, from London to Barcelona - you can find a far better deal with Ryanair, easyJet, Flybe or Jet 2, rather than the larger national flag carriers.

Low Cost Airlines - Cheap European flights
For most European travelers, though, continental airlines are far more relevant. These are airlines that focus on the continent of Europe, offering extremely discounted flights to and from popular destinations. If you’re willing to book at odd times or with little notice, you can find incredible deals with these airlines. The two most popular European discount airlines are Ryanair and easyJet, both of which provide extremely economical alternatives to regular commercial flights. When you’re lookng for cheap flights, don’t discount low cost airlines! They’ll save you more than you realize.
