Zante Airport Information

Zante airport is also known as Zakynthos airport and is officially named 'Dionysos Solomos'. It perches at the south of the island about half a mile from Laganas, one of the island's most popular and lively resorts. It is also convenient for Zante's capital town. Zante airport is Greece's fifth busiest, even though it's a tiny island. The airport is relatively new, updated in 2008 to cope with ever-increasing passenger numbers, more flights and extra airlines. Things are a lot better than before, when the island's airport was even smaller and very old. There's a lovely, spacious arrivals and departures area and getting through and out the other end is much faster than it used to be.

 

Zante airport doesn't take night flights so you'll enjoy a good night's sleep with no aircraft noise pollution. How come? Because the island's famous and very rare turtles nest on the beaches of Zante and noise at night disturbs them. So arrival and departure times are limited. The good side? Apart from the turtles' happiness and comfort, it means you won't have to fly in or out in the dead of night. Daytime flights are much nicer than hanging around 'til the early hours, with no hotel to relax in because you've checked out, tired and bored. The down side? There are occasional delays because landings and take-offs have to be squeezed into a shorter time frame. But this island is well worth the wait.

The new arrivals and departures areas are clean and smart, with full air conditioning, a nice snack bar and, of course, a well-stocked duty free shop.
