Sky Europe

Sky Europe is a low-cost airline based in Slovakia, offering short-haul charter and scheduled services. It is Central Europes' largest low-cost airline and flies to 44 destinations in 19 countries. Targeting both leisure and business customers, Sky Europe serves destinations such as Krakow, Dubrovnik, Warsaw as well as holiday favourites Malaga, Naples and Athens, and business centres including London, Paris and Prague, and flies from London, Birmingham, Manchester, Dublin and Cork. 

 

Sky Europe - First publicly traded airline in Central Europe 

The airline was founded in November 2001 by Alain Skowronek and Christian Mandl, the Chairman and CEO. Sky Europe was financed by EBRD, ABN-Amro and EU funds and saw its first flight depart in February 2002. Its main base at Bratislava Airport was perceived as an ideal location as it was a catchment area covering 4 countries - Slovakia, Austria, the Czech Republic and Hungary. Sky Europe went public on the Vienna and Warsaw stock exchanges, with a value of 120 million euros, and they remain the only airline to be listed in Central Europe. In 2007, SkyEurope opened a base at Vienna International Airport and began operating an additional 16 routes. Then in 2008 Sky Europe entered into a partnership with Ceske drahy to create the CD Sky Alliance, resulting in airline tickets being sold for a fixed price at train stations in Brno and Prague.

 

Sky Europe - Youngest fleet of aircraft in Europe 

The airline has a fleet of 14 Boeing 737-700s, with plans to increase to 32 by 2011, and with an average age of 8 months old, the fleet is the youngest in Europe.

Sky Europe reported a passenger volume of over 3.2 million in 2007, and the airline has transported over 5 million people since it began in 2002.
