Samos International Airport is the entry point for holiday destinations on the Greek island of Samos. The airport is just 5 km from the town of Pythagorio, and a short transfer from popular resorts on the island. The airport is also useful for those travelling on to the island of Patmos. The number of flights from the UK has increased a little in recent years but finding a flight from outside London remains problematic.
Direct flights are only available during the long beach holiday season, when tour operators like Thomson provide charter flights from the UK. Many of the best deals are found in early spring and late summer, when the weather remains warm and sunny. Seasonal routes often begin in May and end in September.
The summer season sees Thomson operating a route from London Gatwick. Flights may also be available from airlines flying from London Heathrow. These usually include Aegean Airlines, Olympic and Air Berlin. These flights are normally indirect. If flights are not available you should be able to find an onward flight from Athens.
The best deals are almost always from London Gatwick. Flying from airports outside London will considerably increase the cost of the flight. Finding direct flights in the winter season is problematic if not impossible. Winter visitors to the island have to rely on local ferry services or fly via Athens or Thessaloniki.
