Rome Fiumicino Airport is the main airport serving Rome. The airport is 35km from Rome and has excellent train connections with the city centre. There is a wide choice of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants.

Rome is exceptionally well served from the UK, with both budget and low-cost airlines offering flights. Recent years have seen economical direct flights with low-cost airline EasyJet. You should also find well-priced flights with Norwegian and British Airways from Gatwick. Monarch also offer very affordable fares from London Luton, Leeds Bradford and Birmingham.

Reasonably priced flights from regional UK airports are often available from airlines like KLM, Air Berlin, Alitalia, Vueling, Germanwings, Air France and Lufthansa. These are usually indirect. The lowest fares are often from London Stansted.

Local Transport

  • The airport has its own railway station. The Leonardo Express train heads for Termini railway station in the centre of Rome. Journey time is 30 minutes. Tickets cost 14 euros. A cheaper but slower option is a train on the Sabina-Fiumicino line (FR1), with stops at Rome railway stations like Tiburtina, Tuscolana, Ostiense and Trastevere. Trains depart every 15 minutes. Tickets cost 8 euros.

  • Several bus lines operate services to the airport. Buses depart from outside Terminal 2. Buses head for key city-centre locations like Piazza dei Cinquecento, Rome Tiburtina Station, Cornelia Station (Line A underground), Eur-Magliana station (Line B underground). Tickets are a bit cheaper if bought before boarding the bus. Journey time 50-60 minutes.

  • Terravision buses run direct to Termini train station in the city centre. Tickets cost 4 euros.

  • A taxi into central Rome should cost 50-55 euros
