Rijeka airport is an excellent entry point to the picturesque Kvarner region and a stretch of Adriatic coastline to the northwest of Croatia famous for its picturesque islands, tiny fishing villages, unspoiled natural harbours, super-clean beaches, crystal clear water, sparkling bays and stylish marinas. The city of Rijeka has cosmopolitan restaurants, galleries, theatres, bars, clubs and casinos. Rijeka Airport is located on the popular Croatian holiday island of Krk, 30km southeast of Rijeka. This is a very small regional airport with a simple bar/restaurant and small duty-free shop. Departure and arrival are relaxed and fast.
The vast majority of flights are seasonal, with few airlines maintaining routes outside the summer beach holiday months. Recent years have seen seasonal flights from the UK with low-cost airline Ryanair. You may also find summer flights with tour operators like Thomson. At present, the most reliable service is with Croatia Airlines, with direct flights from London Heathrow. Flight time is about 2 hours. Reasonably priced indirect flights can be found with Germanwings, British Airways and Swiss Air.
