A special Carris airport shuttle bus will take you directly to and from the centre of Lisbon in approximately 20 minutes for a very reasonable price, and these buses will also run beyond Lisbon as far as Cascais in the west of the country. Further away locations such as Estoril are served by the Scotturb bus shuttle. Town bus lines also connect Lisbon Portela Airport to the centre of Lisbon, usually bus numbers 5, 22, 44, 45 and 83.

Lisbon Portela Airport lies on the A1 from Porto to Lisbon, and is only a few kilometres away from the centre of Lisbon, Portugal's vibrant capital city. This proximity means that you can expect road networks to be very good, and while you can most likely rely on roadside sign posts to get you where you need to go, it is worth taking a map or checking out an online route planner before you set off. Taxi ranks with metered taxis are situated right outside the airport, and connect you to the centre of Lisbon quickly and efficiently for around €10 depending on traffic conditions. Taxis can also take you to the nearby railway station or other destinations such as Alfornelos, Bobadela or Amadora. You can easily rent a car from within the airport itself from such respected and world renowned car rental agencies as Hertz, Europcar and AVIS.
