Larnaca Airport Information

Larnaca International Airport is currently in a state of flux, half way between its original status of a small-ish airport and becoming a large international presence. The new-look Larnaca airport, due to open in late 2009, will feature state of the art facilities. But at present at Larnaca International offers a limited number of shops and restaurants. If you’re here on business you’ll find a small business centre in the departure hall complete with fax, photocopying and PCs with internet access. In addition there are three banks, a few ATMs, a Post Office and First Aid station in Arrivals, all of which is accessible to disabled passengers.

 

Larnaca International Airport also offers family friendly washrooms and a special children’s play area. They’re very helpful here, offering a wheelchair accessible airport transfer service, wheelchair and power scooter hire and a new porter service. If you need help carting your heavy luggage around the airport just contact the Hermes customer service desk when you get there to arrange for a friendly porter to take over. They’re based in the check in area. If you’re departing your luggage will be picked up from the passenger drop off point in front of the terminal and delivered to the check in queue of your airline for you. If you’re arriving your porter will pick up your stuff from the Baggage Reclaim area in arrivals Hall and drop it off at a convenient place, or with a convenient person. All for just ten Euros cash per trolley load!

 

Larnaca International Airport has loads of good car hire facilities including household name providers Avis, Hertz and Europcar. Via the airport’s official website you’ll find a couple of unusual and special services: fully accessible holiday apartments in Polis plus disabled access minibus excursions and boat trips. And, despite the economic doom and gloom, they’re expanding. In April 2009 the well known Middle East airline Etihad Airways announced that it would start running regular scheduled flights between Cyprus and the United Arab Emirates so watch this space during summer 2009 for three flights per week linking Larnaca and Abu Dhabi.
