Trains to Ibiza Airport
Once you step off the plane and land on Ibizan soil, you’ll understand why there aren’t any trains on the island. Away from the coast the landscape is rocky and steep, with winding roads hugging steep cliffs and a massive great volcano in the middle! Though mostly a party island Ibiza is also a beautiful place, large areas of which have been designated U.N. World Heritage sites. Train lines can’t be run through these areas and the terrain means that railways have never been developed on the island. Thankfully the island’s local bus services are fantastic; regular, efficient, friendly and very good value!

Buses to Ibiza Airport
Take a bus to the coast and you’ll find regular ferry crossings from Ibiza to the gorgeous, exotic island of Formentera, a boat journey of about 45 minutes. You’ll find all the information you need at Ibiza Airport tourist office. Ibiza has two kinds of buses; public buses and private shuttle buses. If you’re on a package holiday, your transfers will probably have been arranged for you. Otherwise, if you’re heading for a resort near Girona Airport you can pre-book a shuttle bus via a firm called Shuttle Direct. (www.shuttledirect.com/en/airport). The island’s authorities have recently extended their bus services to take into account late flight arrivals, so transport across Ibiza will find travelling from the airport to their hotel, apartment or villa easier and cheaper then ever. As you’d expect there are masses of taxis waiting outside the terminal. The journey time to Ibiza town is about 20 minutes and you can also travel by taxi to the resorts at Playa den Bossa, San Juan, San Antonio, Santa Eulalia and San Jose.

Ibiza is the biggest island in the Balearics and is easy and fun to explore by car. Car hire is good value and you’ll discover the usual choice of car hire firms at the airport. You’ll also find car hire offices in the major towns. It is always a good idea to book your hire car in advance online if at all possible.
