Chennai International Airport (formerly known as Madras Airport) is the third busiest airport in India. Work is underway on a new terminal building and extensive renovation of the entire airport. There is a good choice of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. Plans are also underway to connect the airport to the metro system with its own airport station.
The best deals are often from Manchester, Heathrow, Stansted and Birmingham. Fares from regional airports are a little more expensive. The lowest fares are often with British Airways, Gulf Air, Etihad, Lufthansa and Emirates. Flights are frequently indirect. Chennai Airport is the gateway to the Chennai region, better known in the UK by its former name, Madras. The region is packed with wonderfully exotic temples, superb nature parks and exciting things to see and do.
