The key is to look outside of the big airlines. Of course, sometimes you can get cheap flight deals, seat sales, special cheap flight promotions, which are remarkably successful ways to reduce the cost of your flight. On the other hand, if there aren’t any sales, and your dates aren’t flexible enough for standby flights, then it may be neccessary to seek out other types of budget flights.

Often, a specific geographic area will have two types of airlines: a large international company and smaller domestic companies. If you do a search for airfare, many places exclude these smaller airlines. Because they’re using smaller planes and covering less distance, small domestic airlines can often offer a much better deal than international companies.

You’ll also find that some low cost airlines specialise in budget flights like Ryanair, easyJet, Bmi and Flybe. These airlines might be small and are probably no frills (don’t expect meal service or complimentary drinks!). It’s common knowledge that the off-season is the best time to get budget flights. However, sometimes even a day or two can make a significant difference in the cost of your flight! If you’re willing to fly at slightly inconvenient times - late in the evening or early in the morning - you can also usually find better deals. That flight leaving at 2:00 PM on Saturday could cost double the flight leaving at 11:00 PM Monday!

Often, travel agencies and online agents offer combination hotel and flight deals. Sometimes they also have special arrangements with various airlines, giving them reduced prices. It’s always worth checking this out before booking directly through the airline! If you use a bit of imagination, you’re sure to find great budget flights!
