Athens International Airport is the busiest airport in Greece. Competition between budget and low-cost airlines keeps fares from the UK reasonably low. The airport is 20km from the city centre.
Many of the best deals are found with EasyJet. The low-cost airline operates year-round flights from Edinburgh, Manchester and London Gatwick. You should also find attractive fares with Aegean Airlines from London Gatwick.
Reasonably priced flights are also available from airlines flying from London Heathrow. These usually include Aegean Airlines, Olympic and British Airways.
Flights tend to be more expensive during the summer school holiday period. Many of the best deals are found in early spring and autumn. It is always worth booking as well in advance as possible.
The lowest fares are almost always from London Gatwick, Manchester and Edinburgh. Flying from other regional airports adds to the cost of the flight. Many routes from airports outside London are indirect. Airlines with reasonably priced indirect flights include KLM, Air France, Germanwings, Swiss and Lufthansa
